The "4mm safe battery cell" is the latest mandatory Chinese standard for power banks, referring to lithium batteries that have passed the stringent 4mm steel needle penetration test (i.e., a 4mm diameter steel needle vertically penetrates a fully charged battery). This technology ensures that the battery cell will not catch fire, explode, or experience thermal runaway when punctured by sharp objects or subjected to extreme external force.
This standard requires that the battery cell must be able to withstand a 4mm diameter steel needle vertically penetrating it at a speed of 20 ± 1 mm/s, ensuring no fire or explosion during the process, significantly enhancing daily use safety.
